Garage Door Cost in Australia: Sectional vs Roller vs Tilt (2026)

What a new garage door really costs in Australia in 2026 — and why the cheapest roller door is rarely the cheapest decision over ten years.

A new garage door is one of the highest-ROI upgrades you can make to an Australian home. It's also one of the easiest places to overspend — or to under-spec and regret it within five years.

Typical 2026 prices (supplied & installed)

  • Single roller door (2.4 × 2.1 m): $1,200 – $2,200
  • Double roller door (4.8 × 2.1 m): $1,900 – $3,400
  • Single sectional door (insulated): $2,400 – $3,800
  • Double sectional door (insulated): $3,200 – $5,500
  • Tilt door (timber-look): $2,800 – $4,800
  • Add a motor + two remotes: $550 – $950

Which type is right for your home?

Roller doors

The Australian default. Cheap, compact (curls up into a drum, so no overhead tracks), and fine for most suburban garages. Downsides: thin steel, poor insulation, noisy operation, and they look basic from the street.

Sectional doors

European standard. Insulated panels (40–45 mm polyurethane core), whisper-quiet operation, far better security and a premium street appearance. Adds real resale value, especially on newer homes. The right answer if your garage is attached to the living space.

Tilt doors

One solid panel that tilts up. Great for timber-look heritage looks. Needs swing-out clearance in the driveway — a deal-breaker for short driveways.

What to look for in the quote

  • Panel thickness (40 mm+ for insulated sectional)
  • Motor brand and warranty (5+ years on the motor is the benchmark)
  • Soft-start / soft-stop motor (massive noise difference)
  • Wind rating for cyclone zones (mandatory in QLD north of Bundaberg and most of WA's north)
  • Colorbond colour match vs paint — paint fades faster
If the garage faces the street and the house is worth more than $700K, an insulated sectional door pays for itself the day you sell. Roller doors quietly cap your kerb appeal.
